SpiceJet not to renew contracts of 55 foreign pilots
| |
SPICEJET plans to ease out around 55 foreign pilots as their contracts end in June, October and December. “We will gradually replace foreign pilots with Indian talent in order to reduce salary costs,” a senior SpiceJet official told ET. Currently, foreign pilots are paid a monthly salary of Rs five lakh, plus hotel accommodation of Rs two lakh, whereas their Indian counterpart draw Rs 3.6 lakh in a month. Confirming the development, SpiceJet CEO Sanjay Aggarwal said the company will phase out foreign pilots and will follow the rules set by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

MUMBAI: Paramount Airways, the country’s only full business class airline, is close to signing contracts worth Rs 4,000 crore with Boeing and Airbus. It has decided to order 10 new fleet — A330 and A350 from Airbus, and B777 and B787 from Boeing — for its proposed overseas operations, a person close to the development said. He said Paramount will pay in instalment to take delivery of these aircraft within 18 months of placing orders.

• Indigo airline adds six more flights to its operation

NEW DELHI: Low-cost airline IndiGo on Wednesday announced to add six more flights to its operation even as the domestic demand continues to weak.
Rival SpiceJet is also planning to introduce similar number of flights by the end of May. While IndiGo is expected to add five more aircraft to its existing fleet, SpiceJet is scheduled to take the delivery of one airplane by the end of the current fiscal.
